National Day Highlights Savings, Convenience, and Environmental Benefits of Public Transit

ALBANY, NY (June 17, 2026) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is encouraging residents in the Capital Region to celebrate Dump the Pump Day on Thursday, June 18, 2026. The day encourages people to leave their cars at home and take advantage of public transportation as a convenient, affordable, and environmentally friendly mobility option.

"Public transportation is one of the smartest investments people can make in their daily commute," said CDTA CEO Frank Annicaro. "Whether you're traveling to work, school, medical appointments, or recreational activities, CDTA provides a reliable and affordable way to get where you need to go while helping reduce traffic and supporting a more sustainable Capital Region."

With gas prices continuing to impact household budgets, public transportation offers a cost-effective alternative to driving. CDTA's extensive route network connects communities throughout Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Montgomery, and Warren counties, making it easy for residents and visitors to choose transit. CDTA is offering one (1) complimentary Day Pass and a free hour of time on CDPHP Cycle! for signing a ‘Dump The Pump’ pledge now through the end of June online at www.cdta.org/form/dump-the-pump.

CDTA customers can plan trips, purchase fares, and track buses in real time using the Navigator app. CDTA offers a menu of mobility options beyond traditional service, including FLEX On Demand, STAR paratransit service, CDPHP Cycle!, and DRIVE carshare.
