CDPHP Cycle! Breaks Ridership Record
More than 81,000 rides taken in 2024; the most since the program debuted in 2017
ALBANY, NY (November 26, 2024) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) and CDPHP are excited to announce CDPHP Cycle! has broken all previous ridership records since the program debuted in 2017. A total of 81,685 rides have been taken so far this riding season. And, thanks to the beautiful fall in upstate New York, there are still a few weeks of riding in season eight left to go.
The previous CDPHP Cycle! ridership record was 80,377 in 2022, which was an exciting rebound after the COVID-19 pandemic had disrupted CDPHP Cycle! use in 2020 and 2021, respectively. This year, riders have had access to more than 600 bikes, including more than 200 e-bikes. Ten new stations were added, and customers are using new app technology that makes renting bikes quicker and easier. More than 371,805 rides have been taken since CDPHP Cycle! hit the streets in 2017.
"We're excited to have a new ridership record with the popular CDPHP Cycle! program,” said CDTA CEO Carm Basile. “The Capital Region has enthusiasm and interest for our mobility offerings, and we owe much of this success to our customers, partners, specifically CDPHP, and community, whose support continues to make this program a hit. Over the past several years, we have worked to offer the region more mobility choices, and bikes are at the top of that list.”
“I have been a proponent of CDPHP Cycle! since day one, so it comes as no surprise that we have broken our ridership record thanks to an ambitious and well executed growth plan by our partners at CDTA,” said Brian O’Grady, President and CEO of CDPHP. “This program is a staple of our community and serves as a healthier, greener form of transportation – two items highly synonymous with CDPHP!”
Season eight is expected to end on Friday, December 13, 2024, pending inclement weather. When the season closes, bikes are stored, cleaned and repaired as required. To get started with either pedal or e-bikes, download the upgraded CDPHP Cycle! app on the App Store or Google Play. You can also visit www.cdphpcycle.org for more information on pricing and membership options. Season nine will begin in late March – early April 2025.
