August 25, 2014

ALBANY, N.Y. (August 25, 2014) – Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) Chairman David M. Stackrow has been nominated as one of the members-at-large for the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) Board of Directors. The election will take place on October 11 at APTA's Annual Meeting & EXPO in Houston, TX.

“It is an honor to serve on the APTA Board of Directors at the national level,” Stackrow said. “CDTA has worked hard to further highlight the benefits of public transportation in the Capital Region and we look forward to insuring continued results alongside our partner agencies across the country.”

APTA's 2014 Nominating Committee also selected current Vice Chair Phillip A. Washington, general manager, Regional Transportation District, Denver, CO, as APTA chair for 2014-15, while Valarie J. McCall, board member, Greater Cleveland Regional Transportation Authority, was nominated vice chair, and Doran J. Barnes, executive director, Foothill Transit, West Covina, CA, will continue his three-year term as secretary-treasurer.

“Mr. Stackrow has been a dynamic leader for CDTA not to mention a strong advocate for public transit and the programs APTA provides for its members,” said CDTA Chief Executive Officer Carm Basile. “In addition to his service at CDTA, Mr. Stackrow serves on several local boards and is active in community and civic groups. His dedication to the advancement of public transportation, cooperative management approach and thoughtful decision making are a perfect fit for the APTA Board of Directors.”

Mr. Stackrow has served as Chairman four times since he was appointed to the board in 1995. He has expanded CDTA’s profile as a regional driver of economic development and guided development of new partnerships and programs. Under his leadership, CDTA finished last fiscal year with record ridership of 16.5 million and is currently on pace to exceed 17 million boardings this fiscal year.

Mr. Stackrow has served APTA as the current secretary to the Transit Board Members Committee, following three years of service as the committee’s Region 1 representative. He was previously honored with the Outstanding Board Member of the Year award in 2009.
