CDTA & Music Mobile Team Up To Support Bus Safety

April 16, 2014

ALBANY, N.Y. (April 18, 2014) – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) announced a partnership today with the Music Mobile to further awareness of CDTA’s bus safety program. Capital Region kids designed and created posters with the help of Music Mobile that will be displayed on many of CDTA’s buses all in the name of safety.

“We are thrilled to work with the Music Mobile’s innovative program and allow some area children’s artwork to be showcased on our buses,” said CDTA Chairman David M. Stackrow. “The message of safety is critical for not only Capital Region youth but our community as a whole.”

Along with using songs to teach about the environmental benefits of using public transportation, Music Mobile’s staff helped the children share and work cooperatively in small groups to design and color the posters. The children also made up skits and acted out role-plays about making responsible decisions as bus riders.

“Singing and creating art about life in their city gives children a fun-filled way to explore the meaning of their day-to-day experiences,” said Music Mobile Executive Director Ruth Pelham. “By creating educational posters to hang in the buses, the children get to be leaders and to gain a sense of the power of their own voices.”

The program is another element in CDTA’s safety plan strategy to encourage customers to “Take Pride in their Ride” by adopting safety techniques and following “If You See Something, Say Something” policies. Children attending the Music Mobile’s “City of Life” program were provided with key safety messages that were used to design unique, one-of-a-kind artwork. The posters will begin to appear on CDTA buses by the beginning of May.
