Five Year Outline Focuses On Ridership, Facilities & Economic Development
ALBANY, N.Y. (February 26, 2014) –The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) Board of Directors today adopted an update to its successful Transit Development Plan (TDP) that guided consistent growth over the past five years. The TDP is a strategic guide to planning, service and outreach methodology that has led CDTA to near record ridership, which is expected to surpass 16 million this fiscal year.
The plan details current conditions, standards for performance and projects to be completed that focus on growing ridership, increasing CDTA’s impact across the region and highlighting the organization’s role as an economic development engine. The new plan will guide decision-making for the next five years and covers the major areas of service, mobility and partnerships.
The TDP focuses on eight key areas: a 40-mile Bus Rapid Transit route network, development of Transit Centers at high volume locations, route enhancements, additional park and ride facilities and new fare collection options for customers. CDTA engaged in a substantial outreach program with stakeholders to insure the TDP aligns with regional goals and Board vision. One notable outreach event was a developer roundtable held in December 2013 attended by stakeholders from business, collegiate and government sectors.
Other CDTA News:
CDTA ridership continued to be strong in January with 1.28 million boardings, an increase of 2% from last year. Fiscal year to date, ridership is 6% ahead of the same period last year with CDTA on pace to exceed 16 million boardings. The increases are fueled by redesigned services, a growing partner base and universal access relationships.
The Board of Directors approved the purchase seven portable lifts and one parallelogram lift from Stertil-Koni, Stevensville, Maryland. The new lifts will streamline maintenance and work flow.
