(Albany, NY) –The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) today announced the launch of its first mobile device application to include Real Time Passenger Information (RTPI). Real time passenger information takes the guesswork out of waiting by using Global Positioning System (GPS) satellites to determine bus location and speed.
The application for dedicated to BusPlus service was developed by Axeva, Inc. and features real time information for devices operating on Apple, Android and Blackberry platforms. Customers are now able to see when the bus is coming to any station serviced by BusPlus. The new version also includes full schedules for all BusPlus stations, an interactive map and a touch-a-stop feature. Frequently asked questions providing information on how the app works, and CDTA links are also part of the app.
Customers can also access BusPlus real time passenger information through digital signage at stations, on traditional computers, through text messaging, and via e-mail. Riders interested in live predictions can also sign up for alerts at bustime.cdta.org. The key features of BusTime are arrival predictions for the next 2-3 buses along with live bus tracking to show vehicle location and route progress.
BusPlus is a collaborative program between CDTA, NYSDOT, City of Albany, City of Schenectady, Town of Colonie, and Town of Niskayuna. BusPlus connects with about 30 other routes within the CDTA transportation network. BusPlus on Route 5 is the first part of 100 miles of BRT plan for the Capital Region.
