(Albany, NY) – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is offering the public an opportunity to participate in a free English Language Learner (ELL) program to begin on Thursday, September 8, 2011 and held at the CDTA Technical Training Center at 110 Watervliet Avenue in Albany. The program, to be taught every Tuesday and Thursday, from 5pm-8pm, will give CDTA employees and community members the opportunity to enhance their English skills through a curriculum that focuses on reading, writing and speaking. Instructors customize training programs to suit individual learning levels.
The English Language Learner program is a joint partnership with CDTA, ATU 1321 and the Capital Region Career Technical School and is a component of Project Empire, a statewide career ladder training program introduced in 2006. Project Empire, the first program of its kind in New York State, is developed through community partnerships to enhance training and skill-building in public transportation.
The ELL program is federally funded through an Employment Preparation Education program operated by New York State. Participants will receive a certificate when they complete the program.
CDTA promotes a positive work environment for its 750 employees by offering programs, like ELL, that enhance communications, teamwork and an appreciation for diverse abilities and contributions.
