Paving work to begin on Monday, July 10, 2023; Detours in place while work is being completed
ALBANY, NY (July 5, 2023) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is nearing completion of a new roundabout at Crossgates Mall for access to and from the I-87 Northway as part of its Purple Line Project. Paving work in the area and on Crossgates Mall Road will begin on Monday, July 10, 2023, and last through Tuesday, July 11. If rain impacts the work, paving will continue Wednesday, July 12. During this period, the entire new traffic circle area, including the on-and-off ramps from I-87, will be shut down. Please see the attached diagram for the closure and reroutes.
The paving and lane striping work is the final phase of construction, and once complete, the area will then be open to the public. The improvements made at this intersection will help with the flow of buses in and around Crossgates Mall and future developments in the area.
The Purple Line will be CDTA’s third bus rapid transit line and will run along Washington and Western Avenues in the City of Albany. The Purple Line will also connect to the existing Red and Blue Lines, allowing riders fast, accessible, and affordable access to destinations across the Capital Region.
