May 08, 2018

More bikes, more stations, endless adventure!

SCHENECTADY, NY (May 8, 2018) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) and CDPHP officially launched season two of CDPHP Cycle!, the Capital Region’s firstbike-share program. CDPHP Cycle! features 350 bikes distributed among 80 bike stations in Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga Springs. The program offers the community a healthy, affordable, and fun mode of transportation.

“We are excited to be back bigger and bolder this year,” said Georgeanna Nugent, CDTA Board Chairwoman. “CDPHP Cycle! has taken off like wildfire since our inaugural launch last year. We are proud to offer another mobility option that helps the Capital Region explore.”

“I’m thrilled that we are continuing our partnership with CDTA to bring the Capital Region a new season of CDPHP Cycle!,” said John D. Bennett, MD, President and CEO of CDPHP. “Doubling the program will allow even more residents to access this calorie-burning, heart-pumping alternative to driving.”

New this year – expanded rack locations throughout Albany, Schenectady, Troy, and Saratoga. The additional locations are based on votes from community members, ridership data from season one, and integration with transit and bicycle infrastructure. New racks will be rolled out throughout the spring.

“Bikes are a great way to help connect our communities and provide more opportunities to support our local businesses,” said Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara.“Providing easy, convenient travel options are an important step towards achieving our goal of creating more sustainable, vibrant communities.”

“The first year of the bike-share program has been an incredible success across the Capital Region and we are extremely proud to be expanding it throughout our neighborhoods,” said Gary McCarthy, Mayor of Schenectady.“We look forward to implementing our recently adopted Bicycle Infrastructure Master Plan, showing that Schenectady is leading the way in sustainable transportation options. The CDPHP Cycle!program, in partnership with CDTA, will strengthen those sustainable improvements and help support active, healthy lifestyles for residents and visitors.”

“Mohawk Harbor is one of the region’s premier entertainment and living destinations, and we welcome CDPHP Cycle! with open arms,” said David Buicko, President and CEO of Galesi Group.“With a beautiful man-made harbor on the Mohawk River and connections to popular regional bike trails, I can’t think of a better place to have a bike-share hub. This is sure to be a popular location, and I can’t wait to see people enjoying the beautiful weather and scenery.”

“Innovative partnerships like the one here between CDTA and CDPHP are what keep our region moving forward and pushing the envelope of innovation,” said Mark Eagan, President and CEO of the Capital Region Chamber.“This is an area where businesses can thrive, people want to raise their families, and tourists seek to visit. CDPHP Cycle!is an important addition to our regional economic initiatives, and the Chamber is so excited to see this expansion.”

“Mohawk Harbor represents a significant investment in Schenectady and its waterfront, and CDPHP Cycle! is a great complement to that,” said Ray Gillen, Chairman of the Schenectady Metroplex Development Authority. “CDTA has been a tremendous partner to the development efforts in Schenectady, enhancing and expanding bus routes and offering innovative mobility options like the Electric City Trolley. This expansion is another great example of their forward-thinking approach to improving our region.”
