Veterans & Active Military Personnel Get Complimentary Trips on November 11th
(Albany, NY) – The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) joins the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) and the public transportation industry to pay tribute to America’s heroes. Veterans and Active Military personnel who show their Identification card may ride free on Veterans Day, Monday, November 11, 2013 as CDTA service will operate on its regular service schedule.
“Providing these free trips is our way of showing appreciation for the dedicated service of our military servicemen and women,” said CDTA Chairman David Stackrow. “We proudly employ more than 30 veterans and are committed to supporting their transition by connecting them to integral services and resources.”
The free ride day is in addition to the fact that all veterans who receive disability benefits are eligible to ride CDTA buses for half fare by showing their Medicare card or half fare ID cards. CDTA is hosting its 2nd annual Veterans Day luncheon to honor current and retired military employees at a local VFW Post to thank them for their support of our country.
Public Transportation Supports America’s Veterans Day works to bring greater awareness that public transportation jobs include skills veterans may already have obtained through their military service.
CDTA works with the Department of Veterans Affairs office, VETerans Housing Employment and Lifeskills Program (VETHELP), Glenmont Job Corps, Soldier On and Guardian Female Homeless Veterans House on events and programs to assist veterans in securing employment. CDTA Travel trainers regularly teach veterans how to ride the bus, personally escorting them on trips, and planning itineraries. CDTA works with local organizations that transport veterans to educational and training sites and participates in job fairs targeted towards veterans.
CDTA has partnered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to promote their VA Homefront awareness and outreach campaign to end Veteran homelessness by 2015. Posters and brochures have been placed at various public CDTA outlets.
