The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) Board of Directors today approved parking lot expansion and entrance and exit enhancements at the Rensselaer Rail Station. Construction is scheduled to begin within the next few weeks and be completed in November.
The expansion will include new parking spaces located on the north side of the station next to the parking garage on the old Amtrak station site across from lot A. The additional 85 parking spaces will bring the Rensselaer Rail Station to a total of 1385 parking spaces. The project also includes additional entry points into the economy parking lot b. The roadway will be realigned for better exit flow featuring 2 exit lanes instead of one.
Amtrak ridership has increased on the Northeast corridor and the additional spaces will benefit customers at peak time usage during holidays and special events when parking is often at full capacity.
This project was awarded to Callanan Industries, Inc. in the amount of $873,465 and not to exceed the sum of $1,073,465, funded by a State grant.
CDTA is also expanding the amount of available parking at the Saratoga Springs Train Station by an additional 85 spaces and is expected to be completed by late October. Delsignore Black Top Paving was awarded this contract for $197,579.

Fiscal year to date, ridership is 6% ahead of the same period last year with CDTA on pace to exceed 16 million boardings. These increases are fueled by redesigned services, and the ridership from universal access business relationships.
