“If You See Something, Say Something” Initiative in Effect at Facilities & Vehicles
(Albany, NY) – To further ensure the safety of its customers, tenants and employees, in light of the recent incident in Boston, the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has chosen to heighten its security alert system and increase security measures.
While there are no specific threats at this time, CDTA has increased local law enforcement and security presence at all facilities including the Rensselaer Rail Station and the Saratoga Springs Train Station. Bus operators and street supervisors will conduct more frequent bus inspections and encourage customers to be more vigilant by carefully observing their surroundings.
“We want our customers and employees to feel safe at work and on the road, so we are encouraging them to follow the “If you see something, say something” initiative,” said CDTA Chairwoman Denise Figueroa.
Rail station passengers are encouraged to contact security or customer service personnel to report any suspicious activity or items. CDTA bus patrons are reminded to report any suspicious activity they observe to their operator immediately. CDTA also encourages anyone to report any suspicious activity to the New York State Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Services: 1-866-SAFE-NYS, 1-866-723-3697 or go to their website at www.dhses.ny.gov.
“See Something, Say Something” signage is prominently displayed at all of CDTA’s facilities and on its buses to emphasize the safety and security message and list appropriate contacts for reporting suspicious activity.
CDTA regularly works with local law enforcement, homeland security and federal officials to develop collaborative security plans and conduct mock exercises to coordinate improved emergency response systems.
