CDTA TO CELEBRATE EARTH DAY THROUGHOUT CAPITAL REGION

(Albany, NY) – In recognition of Earth Day’s 42nd Anniversary and spring time activities, the Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) will take part in multiple events highlighting public transportation’s role in reducing carbon emissions, traffic congestion and improving air quality. The list of events follows:

Wednesday, April 18, 2012 (11:00am – 2:00pm)
New York State Department of Transportation Earth Day Event
NYSDOT offices, 50 Wolf Road, Colonie, New York
CDTA Travel Trainers will be on hand to provide NYSDOT employees and outside attendees with information on environmental public transportation initiatives and sustainable options, including education on the Route 5 BusPlus limited stop service.

US General Services Administration Earth Day event
Leo O’Brien Building, Albany, New York
CDTA Travel Trainers will staff a booth, next to the computer, Electronic and Metal Recycling area, to highlight CDTA’s environmental initiatives and services.

 

Wednesday April 25, 2012 (12:00pm – 1:30pm)
GE Global Research Center – “We C Green” employee fair
GE facility, Niskayuna, New York
CDTA will display a hybrid bus and set up an informational booth staffed by CDTA Travel Trainers at GE Global Research Center as part of the “We C Green” Earth day scavenger hunt event for employees.

CDTA, Community bike rack pickup for Capital Region Bike Rack program

CDTA will distribute bike racks to 28 organizations and businesses as part of the 2012 Capital Region Bike Rack Program. Applications were approved for a total of 141 bike racks, which will provide an additional 325 secure bike parking spaces in the Capital Region this spring. This is the 3rd year of the Bike rack program totaling 716 bike rack installations and offering 1754 safe bike parking spots throughout the Capital Region.This program complements CDTA’s bikeable bus program with 250 regular route buses equipped with dual bike racks. Last year, over 62,000 bikeable rides were taken on CDTA buses.

Albany Bicycle Coalition's Second Annual Bike EXPO
Lake House in Washington Park, Albany, NY
CDTA will set up hybrid Bikeable bus at the event to demonstrate how to use the bike racks on the buses. The Expo will include participants from throughout the Capital Region – bicycle shops, vendors, community groups, and advocacy organizations. NYBC has invited local, state and federal legislators to attend the Expo to learn about the benefits of bicycling and the bicycling needs of constituents.  

CDTA environmental initiatives include hybrid bus technology, BusPlus limited stop service, bikeable buses, solar trash compactors, shelters and bus stop signage, the Capital Region Bike Rack program, transit-oriented development, ride matching and other sustainable travel options.
