Service Enhancements and Free Saratoga Springs Trolley Service Highlight News Conference

ALBANY, N.Y. (May 26, 2016) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) and the Saratoga Springs Mayor’s Office held a news conference Thursday outlining new service set to the hit the streets, Sunday May 29, 2016 and the announcement of free service this summer onboard the Saratoga Springs trolley. The plan features more service hours, while providing improved connections across one of the state’s fastest growing counties.

“The new routes put resources where people want and need them the most, offering better connections throughout Saratoga County,” said CDTA Board Chairman David M. Stackrow.

CDTA’s Saratoga County restructuring plan better aligns service to demand because where people live and work continues to shift. The new service plan, based on ridership data and community input, offers improved frequency along Route 50, direct connections from downtown to employment and retail centers while insuring seniors have access to key services.

Stackrow added, “In total, we have added roughly 10,000 service hours in Saratoga County that aims to improve mobility and access. I want to thank everyone who played a role in this project. We held a number of meetings and offered multiple revisions to insure that the service is responsive to community needs.”

Saratoga Springs Mayor Joanne Yepsen said, "CDTA's new transit plan for the City of Saratoga Springs will provide an even greater benefit to our citizens, businesses, and visitors as they live, work and vacation in the Spa City.”

Today’s announcement also included the unveiling of a new service plan for the Saratoga Springs summer trolley. CDTA’s trolley routing has been updated and will operate free of charge for all customers from July 3rd through September 5, 2016. The improved trolley offers streamlined service for improved connections to hotels and key attractions along Broadway in Downtown Saratoga, including the historic Saratoga Race Course along with Saratoga Casino and Hotel.

Yepsen added, “I'm particularly excited about CDTA updating the Trolley service in our city. The trolley is a fun, effective, environmentally-friendly way to transport guests, while reducing traffic congestion and demand for limited parking. We look forward to growing the service next summer and thank CDTA for offering this free service as well as for their on-going partnership and commitment to our region."

A detailed trolley schedule will be available shortly. For a complete look at the Saratoga route restructuring plan visit http://www.cdta.org/news/saratoga-route-restructuring/11555.
