Riders Experience 90% Arrival Accuracy with CDTA’s New Real-Time System

April 16, 2026

Helping riders spend less time waiting and more time moving as Navigator app usage grows 50%; separately, FLEX wait times fall by as much as 85%

The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA), in partnership with global mobility solutions provider Moovit, has launched an enhanced real-time arrival system within its Navigator app and on cdta.org, achieving a 90% arrival prediction accuracy for fixed routes, providing riders across New York’s Capital Region a smoother mobility experience.

Navigator, powered by Moovit, serves as Albany’s central mobility platform, enabling riders to plan trips, track vehicles in real time, pay fares, and book on-demand services in one place.

The latest advancement builds on CDTA’s continued investment in digital mobility solutions. The new system refines estimated times of arrival (ETAs) by analyzing real-time vehicle positioning, current traffic conditions, and historical travel patterns to dynamically adjust positions. The result is more reliable ETAs and a smoother ride.

The stronger accuracy comes as more riders turn to Navigator to manage their daily travel:

  • 30,000 monthly active users, including 8,000 daily active users
  • 50% increase in monthly active users since 2023
  • More than 450,000 trips planned each month
  • 167,000+ total downloads

CDTA has also seen significant reductions in FLEX on-demand waiting times following service adjustments, including transitioning to point-to-point pickup and drop-off, and the launch of a third zone in Saratoga Springs in late 2025.

Guilderland Zone

  • Weekdays: 62% reduction (31.5 → 12 minutes)
  • Saturday: 81% reduction (45 → 8.5 minutes)
  • Sunday: 85% reduction (55 → 8 minutes)

South Saratoga Zone

  • Weekdays: 35% reduction (31 → 20 minutes)
  • Weekends: 20% reduction (22.5 → 18 minutes)

These changes have also supported and driven engagement with FLEX services:

  • 98% repeat rider rate of FLEX riders in the last 30 days
  • 92% of FLEX rides are booked through the Navigator app

“Delivering reliable, easy-to-use technology solutions across all CDTA platforms, including the Navigator app and cdta.org, is one of our top priorities,” said Thomas Guggisberg, Director of Information Technology at CDTA. “Moovit has been an outstanding partner committed to helping CDTA improve the quality of CDTA services and the informational products we provide to customers.”

“For many riders, shorter wait times mean more flexibility, less time standing outside, and more control over their schedules,” said Ziv Kabaretti, Moovit’s Chief Product Officer. “By combining predictive AI technology with CDTA’s operational expertise, we’re delivering measurable improvements that riders can feel every day.”

Navigator is available for download on iOS and Android devices. For more information, visit cdta.org.
