CDTA, Rosenblum Development, and the City of Troy Unveil Green Initiatives to Celebrate Earth Day
TROY, NY (April 22, 2022) The Capital District Transit Authority (CDTA), with Troy Mayor Patrick Madden and Jeff Mirel, Principal of Rosenblum Development, unveiled several new green initiatives in celebration of Earth Day.
CDTA introduced its new “green” station at Congress and Fourth streets. The new station is located outside of Vicina – Modern Urban Flats, a ground-up five-story mixed-use residential building developed and operated by Rosenblum Development.
The “Green” station is a first of its kind in the CDTA system and includes space on top of the shelter for planting, solar panels, and a solar-powered compacting trash receptacle. This is just another step for CDTA to promote sustainability throughout the region. Electric buses, CDPHP Cycle!, Scoot, and DRIVE are just some of the other ways CDTA is making its mobility offerings greener, cleaner, and more accessible to customers and the community.
“Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to recognize the outstanding sustainable projects in our community and I am thrilled to unveil the first “Green” station in the CDTA system.” said Carm Basile, CDTA CEO. “At CDTA, we are committed to creating a greener Capital Region through our many environmentally friendly initiatives in place. These initiatives would not be made possible without supportive partners, such as Rosenblum Development and the City of Troy.”
Rosenblum Development unveiled a new rooftop solar system at Vicina, expanding upon the building’s sustainable infrastructure. Vicina also features geothermal heating and cooling, energy recovery ventilation, smart thermostats, Energy Star appliances, WaterSense fixtures, discrete trash and single-stream recycling, indoor bicycle storage and repair, EV charging stations and more. Rosenblum has worked with Aries Power, a renewable energy developer and service provider based in the Capital Region, to deploy solar systems on nine of the company’s buildings to date. With this latest installation, Rosenblum has nearly 1.5 megawatts of rooftop solar production capacity installed or in development.
“Climate change is a global issue but it can only really be addressed if each of us, individuals, businesses and government, take steps locally to reduce our carbon footprints,” said Jeff Mirel, Principal of Rosenblum Development. “We hope our ongoing collaboration with CDTA and the City of Troy can serve as a model for green placemaking and contribute to a more resilient, sustainable Capital Region where every day is Earth Day.”
Troy Mayor Patrick Madden discussed several initiatives going on within the city of Troy contributing to a greener more sustainable footprint in the Collar City. The city is working on LED streetlighting upgrades, our annual Earth Day neighborhood cleanup program, recycling and composting programs, geothermal district heating, and more.
"Each year, Earth Day helps promote efforts to beautify and protect our natural environment for the benefit of future generations of Trojans.” said Troy Mayor Patrick Madden. “The latest green energy investments by CDTA will help advance the objectives of Earth Day, part of a broader effort underway in Troy--including expansion of renewable energy, deployment of electric vehicles, and grassroots efforts to beautify our neighborhoods--to tackle the challenges of climate change and build a cleaner, greener city."
“One of my favorite things about Downtown Troy is that there’s so much more than meets the eye.” said Geoff Brault, Executive Director, Downtown Troy Business Improvement District. “Rosenblum Development doesn’t just construct beautiful, functional spaces, they make our community more efficient and sustainable by incorporating the latest in green technologies. When CDTA installs a transit shelter, it doesn’t just protect people from the elements, it also creates an opportunity for beautification and to leverage renewable energy. This Earth Day, let’s celebrate these innovations and all the others throughout the City of Troy that are helping to create an eco-friendly future.”
