Schenectady Rail station

The current train station was built in 1979 by NYSDOT and Amtrak to replace an older station constructed in the early 1900s and subsequently demolished. The current station is modest and practical, but because of other investments being made in Downtown Schenectady, there is a strong interest in improving the station. The Intermodal Station project focused on creating a practically scaled building, while improving the site, platforms, and customer access.

The Intermodal Station project impacts Schenectady on several levels: providing an improved level of transportation service and accessibility; using its central location to connect portions of downtown; and making a visible aesthetic statement on the rebirth of Schenectady.
