Pink Seats Highlight October Awareness Outreach Efforts
ALBANY, N.Y. (October 1, 2015) The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is joining the American Cancer Society in its fight against breast cancer. CDTA will turn one seat pink on each of its BusPlus buses as a way to bring attention to the disease during the month of October.
“We are happy to join the community in taking on breast cancer,” said CDTA Board Chairman David M. Stackrow. “We all know someone who has been affected by this disease, some of us more personally than others. For that reason, we wanted to join forces with the American Cancer Society and use our reach to create awareness and educate the public in a unique way.”
In addition to the pink seats on BusPlus vehicles, a pink hangtag will offer facts and information leading up to the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on October 18th in Albany’s Washington Park.
“The American Cancer Society is committed to finishing the fight against breast cancer, one we cannot win alone,” said Jeff Winters, Senior Market Manager for the American Cancer Society Capital Region. “CDTA is helping to raise the awareness of this disease and hopefully these hangtags will remind riders to reach out to their physician to discuss screening options and risk factors. And thanks to funds raised at Making Strides, we are here to help if anyone does face a diagnosis.”
CDTA will also be the premier transportation partner for the Making Strides walk. Two buses will transport walkers from two downtown Albany parking lots to Washington Park. More than 15,000 people are expected to attend and participate in the annual event that draws people from all over the Capital Region and beyond.
Stackrow said, “We would also like to send a big thank you to our bus seat vendor Bruce Bussell of Union County Seating in New Jersey who generously donated the breast cancer awareness fabric and his time to make this project a reality.”
